State Representative Dan Carter Announces 2012 Legislative Priorities

HARTFORD—State Representative Dan Carter (R-2) stood among House and Senate legislative leadership today to usher in the first day of the legislative session, and is revealing his determined 2012 agenda of priorities.

“This session I will focus on helping businesses start, stay and grow in Connecticut. This means easing regulations, reducing costs associated with taxes and fees and working closely with our business leaders to determine their needs. We need to improve Connecticut’s business environment and then stand out of the way.  It is the job of government to create favorable conditions for business prosperity, not to use taxpayer money to create jobs,” Rep. Carter said.

He added, “Despite the passage of the largest tax increase in state history last year, the state budget is still on track to end the year with a $145 million deficit and we are still borrowing to pay for basic operating expenses.  We must continue to aggressively address the underlying problems of our economic situation – we must stop the majority party’s overspending and reduce the size and cost of state government.”

“This year I will continue to focus on fiscally responsible legislation that will make meaningful reductions in spending and puts our great state in a better position for recovery,” Rep. Carter said.

Rep. Carter was first elected to the General Assembly in November 2010 and has since been very active in the fight against overspending, tax increases and initiatives that inhibit job growth.  He proudly serves on the legislature’s Public Health Committee, the Banks Committee and the Energy and Technology Committee.

Representative Carter represents the communities of Bethel, Danbury and Redding.
