Two hundred and seventy seniors donned their maroons and white caps and gowns Wednesday evening at Western Connecticut State University’s Westside campus for Bethel High School’s Class of 2012 graduation.
Class president Abdullah Hassan spoke to his peers and commended principal on a job well done Patricia Cosentino who is leaving this year for another position after 11 years with Bethel Public Schools. Despite a broken collarbone, Bethel First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker was in attendance and reminded students to exercise their right to vote. Class valedictorian Brian Michalka encouraged students to follow their passion in life.
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kevin Smith, shared that the scholarship totals received were over $3.1 million, making this year’s class one of the best.
Cosentino handed out diplomas, as graduates put strings of maroon and white beads around her neck. Cosentino also received a diploma from her two associate principals so she would forever be a part of the Bethel High School Class of 2012.
