New Free Resources at the Bethel Public Library

The Bethel Public Library provides over 100 valuable services, and we’re adding more all the time. In this month’s issue, we’re highlighting free research resources available to Bethel Library patrons. These databases can be found under the Catalogs and Resources tab on the Library’s homepage. We’ve provided links here, for those you can access from home. If you have a current Bethel Library card, you can get started today by clicking on the 

Ancestry Library Edition includes U.S. Federal Census records; birth, marriage, and death records; immigration records including passenger lists; Civil War pension lists; social security index; obituaries and more. This database may be accessed only at the Library.

 

AutoRef logo    Automobile Repair Reference Center includes 150+ illustrated Chilton repair manuals for domestic and foreign makes of cars and trucks, which include wiring diagrams, labor time estimates, troubleshooting, car care tips, recall information, and an “Auto IQ” section. 

 

Britannica logoBritannica Online Library Edition contains comprehensive content for all patrons­ from elementary students to college students, from business professionals to seniors. Extensive, reliable and thorough coverage of numerous subjects provided in encyclopedia articles, dictionary and thesaurus, as well as over 29,000 images and more than 1,700 animations, audio clips, and videos.

 

Foundation Directory Online is the nation’s leading online funding research tool. It provides access to the list of 10,000 largest private and community foundations in the U.S. based on their annual giving. This database may be accessed only at the library. Please see the Reference staff for assistance.

Hobbies logo    Hobbies and Crafts Center provides a treasure trove of information about arts and crafts, collecting, electronics, model building, needlecrafts, nature, and more.

 

    Learning Express contains interactive online practice tests and tutorial courses designed to help students and adult learners succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass. It includes electronic books aimed at parents of children just starting school through adult. Tests range from those taken in elementary school through adult.
Mango logo   Mango Languages teaches practical conversation and cultural awareness for the world’s most popular languages. It’s so fast and easy, you’ll be able to have a real conversation in your new language in just minutes!

 

Morningstar logo  Morningstar is an investment resource with access to comprehensive financial information on companies, funds, stocks, EFTs, CEFs, and markets. Provides current data and analysis of over 41,000 investments, as well as access to tools, calculators, and educational resources. This database is limited to one Bethel user at a time.
ProQuest logo  New York Times–Historical covers the years from 1851 to 2008 of this venerable publication.
NewsBank logo  NewsBank allows you to find full-text articles on local news, issues, events, people and much more from current and archived issues of the News-Times, from 2/6/96 to the present. Updated daily, it includes obituaries, editorials, announcements, sports, real estate and other sections. Other NewsBank resources include America’s News Magazines, Special Reports, and Hot Topics, including images, maps and videos.

 

NoveList logo   NoveList is a valuable database of information about more than 135,000 fiction titles for all ages. It can be searched by subject, genre, time period, geographic location, character, reading level. NoveList interacts with the Bethel Public Library online catalog to help you find what you are looking for.
