Editor’s Note: The CT United Ride motorcyclist group will be blazing through Bethel around 12:00p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2012 . They will ride from Norwalk through Bethel down Route 58 and onto Route 302. The roads will be blocked off at the intersection of 58/302 to let the drivers through. The following press release is from CT United Ride. According to their website, the group is a motorcycle riding group that honors those who lost their lives, gave their lives, and those who continue to put their lives on the line each day as a result of the tragedies occurring on 9/11. The CT United Ride is sponsored by the CT State Fire Fighters – the UPFFA of CT. Gov. Dannel Malloy has proclaimed CT United Ride as the largest 9/11 tribute in the State of Connecticut.

The 12th Annual CT United Ride is Sunday September 9, 2012

Motorcyclists from all over Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and from as far south as Maryland are preparing to come ride in next weekend’s 12th annual CT United Ride – this year the attendance is expected to surpass 4,000 participants – The largest single charity ride in New England

Officially recognized and Proclaimed by Governor Dannel Malloy as “The largest 9/11 Tribute in the State of CT”.

The Opening Ceremony 9/11 Tribute begins at 10:30 AM sharp on Sun Sept 9, 2012 at Norden Industrial Park, 10 Norden Place in Norwalk CT, right off of Exit 17 on I-95: Featuring the Pledge of Allegiance, the Nat’l Anthem, CT State Firefighters Pipe and Drum Corp, a Moment of Silence where the Norwalk Fire rings their Bell 11 times beneath two Fire Ladder Trucks holding a 50 foot American Flag. Confirmed Speakers: Exec Director Fred Garrity, Lt Governor Wyman, US Congressmen Himes and Murphy, US Senator Blumenthal, Mayors Moccia and Finch and several other State and local elected officials

Over 4,000 motorcycles with police escorts for the 12th time will ride 60 miles through 10 Fairfield County cities and towns, with no lights and no stops; close to 100 Fire Apparatus will line the route, including over 24 Ladder Trucks creating arches to hang the American Flag over the route for riders to travel under (at least one in each town). Check with your local Fire department to find out where their trucks will be staged along the route

Approximately 50 motorcycle police from over a dozen towns and cities will ensure the safety of the ride. With town and escort police – over 25 municipal fire companies, and 35 police departments are involved along with upwards of 10,000 spectators along the route holding flags and banners cheering on riders

Motorcyclists’ can Register 2 ways – Pre -register the day before the ride on Sat Sept 8, 2012 at Captains Cove Marina from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm; they can also Register on Ride Day Sun Sept 9, 2012 at 10 Norden Place in Norwalk CT from 8:00 am to approx 10:45 am at the event the cost is $25 per person to participate

PLEASE ENCOURAGE people to line the route to pay tribute to the sacrifice of our fallen and serving Heroes

The ride route is: Start 11:30 am Sunday Sept 9, 2012 from Norden Industrial Park 10 Norden Place Norwalk , down Rte 136 Norwalk, to Rte 33 through Westport, to Wilton Rte 7, to Rte 107 Georgetown, to Rte 58N Redding, to Rte 302 Bethel, to Newtown Rte 25 through Monroe, to Main Street Trumbull, to Old Town Rd, to Park Ave in Fairfield continuing on Park Ave through Bridgeport down to Seaside Park on the Water with Bpt Fire Rescue 5 and Battalion Chief leading the Park Ave Motorcade. Arrive in Bridgeport at approx 1:15 pm.
