Rep. Scribner Awarded Legislator of Year by CT Hospice

ROCKY HILL— State Representative David A. Scribner (R-107) was named 2012 Legislator of the Year by the Connecticut Association for Home Care and Hospice (CAHCH) for his efforts to give end-of-life hospice patients greater comfort and security.

Rep. Scribner was presented with the organization’s top award after he championed legislation earlier this year that expands how state hospice care is administered. The bill (HB 5499), which he introduced and co-sponsored, triggered new regulations that will make it easier to build and operate modern hospice residences in underserved areas of Connecticut, including State sponsored at-home care.

“I am grateful and humbled by this honor,” said Rep. Scribner, a member of the Board of Directors for Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut. “My lifelong passion and advocacy for improving hospice care has been uniquely rewarding, and I am proud to have championed this year’s regulatory legislation. I look forward to continuing my efforts to bring comfort and peace of mind to palliative care patients and their families.

Rep. Scribner is a longtime advocate and volunteer for the Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut, and is a member of the legislature’s Public Health Committee.

The Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut is a non-profit organization that provides care, comfort and advocacy for families facing advanced illness. Last year the organization served more than 500 patients around the clock and provided $553,304 in community benefit, including $129,095 in free patient care, consults and visits.
