BHS student Kelly Tyra was named a runner-up for the World Affairs Forum Future Global Leader Award. Kelly is the founder and president BHS’ Rockwell School News Amnesty International chapter. Under Kelly’s leadership the club created a film illustrating the 30 clauses within the Declaration of Human Rights. This film won Best Public Service Announcement at the Connecticut Film Festival. Congratulations, Kelly!
Last weekend the BHS Vex Robotics team, under the guidance of teacher Gene Waring, earned first place in the Masuk High School Vex Robotics Competition. Congratulations to team members Dakota Wright, Eric Franzen, Franco Marciano, Stephan Larsen, and Muhammed Faizan!
We are very grateful to the many parents who took the time to complete the Family School Partnership Survey. In response to the survey, to date the FSP has: *Launched mentoring programs in all five schools. The goal of the mentoring programs is to provide support, guidance, and assistance to families and students.
*Developed and distributed Family-School Compacts at each school. The compacts outline the agreements made by parents, students, and teachers and explain what each stakeholder is responsible for to ensure students meet and exceed grade level standards. *Planned and scheduled a Parent University for February 5th from 6pm-9pm at BMS. The evening will begin with a keynote and then parents will be able to attend a series of grade level breakout sessions. Please mark your calendars. Special thanks to the Central PTO for funding this important event.
*Made numerous recommendations to improve communications across the district.
♦ The Bethel Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting on 12/20 at 6pm to solicit public input regarding the 2013-2014 education budget. This is a significant change in practice resulting from an interest in more effectively engaging the community earlier in the budget creation process. Residents are invited to attend and encouraged to share any thoughts they may have regarding the development of the 2013-2014 budget.
